Plain-English summary

Turbcast is a free turbulence-forecast service. We don’t require an account, we don’t sell your data, and we collect the bare minimum needed to run the service. The full detail is below; this section is what most people want to know.

  • No account, no password, no profile.
  • Your IP address is logged by our hosting provider (Vercel) for security and analytics — standard for any website.
  • The routes you search (origin and destination IATA codes) are stored to power the “most-tracked routes” leaderboard. They are not tied to your identity.
  • Forecast pages embed Mapbox tiles. Mapbox sees your IP when those tiles load.
  • We use Google Analytics on the web only when you consent via the cookie banner.

Who we are

Turbcast (“we”, “us”) operates the website at turbcast.com and the Turbcast mobile applications.

Contact us about anything in this policy at info@turbcast.com.

What we collect

We collect three categories of data, all minimised to what the service requires.

1. Server logs (automatic)

Our hosting provider, Vercel, automatically logs requests to our servers. These logs include your IP address, the URL you visited, timestamp, browser user-agent, and HTTP referrer. We use Vercel’s log retention defaults (30 days). Logs are used for security monitoring, debugging, and aggregate analytics.

2. Route searches (functional)

When you request a forecast, we record the origin and destination IATA codes (e.g. LAXJFK) and a timestamp. This powers the “most-tracked routes” feature on the homepage. We do not store your identity, IP address, or any other identifier alongside the route — just the pair of airport codes and the time.

3. Analytics cookies (with your consent, web only)

On the website, we use Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager to understand how people use Turbcast (which pages, in aggregate). We only set analytics cookies when you grant consent through the cookie banner. The Turbcast mobile app does not currently use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics SDK.

Third parties we share data with

We share data with the following processors purely to deliver the service. None of them receive payment from us in exchange for your data, and none re-sell it.

  • Vercel — web hosting. Sees your IP address and request metadata.
  • Neon — managed PostgreSQL database. Stores the route-search records described above.
  • Mapbox — map tile delivery for the flight-path map on forecast pages. Sees your IP when tiles load.
  • Google (Maps SDK for Android) — map rendering inside the mobile app. Subject to Google’s own privacy policy.
  • Google Analytics (web only, with consent) — aggregate page-view analytics.
  • Expo / EAS — mobile-app delivery and crash reporting infrastructure.
  • NOAA Aviation Weather Center, Open-Meteo, AirLabs — upstream weather and flight-schedule data sources. We pass them the airport pairs and dates you query, never your identity.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We do not track you across other websites or apps.
  • We do not require an account, so we don’t store your name, email, or phone number unless you contact us directly.
  • We do not collect precise device location. Forecasts are calculated from the airport codes you type, not from where you are.

Children's privacy

Turbcast is intended for travellers aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us at info@turbcast.com and we will delete it.

Your rights

Because we don’t hold an account or contact details for you, there is generally nothing personal to you that we can look up. If you have specifically emailed us, you can request a copy or deletion of that correspondence at any time at info@turbcast.com.

Depending on where you live (e.g. EU, UK, California), you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA — including the right to object to processing or to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. We will assist with any such request to the extent we hold relevant data.

Data retention

  • Server logs: 30 days (Vercel default).
  • Route-search records: retained indefinitely in aggregate form. Because they have no user identifier attached, they cannot be deleted on a per-user basis.
  • Email correspondence with us: kept until no longer relevant; deleted on request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices change. The “last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. For material changes that affect data we already hold, we will post a notice on the homepage.
